August- Elizabeth and I met Rich and his lady friend Britt in the Tetons and traveled into Yellowstone for 8 days of
fly fishing and wildlife viewing. Rich has a real thing for those Yellowstone cutthroat trout- a true native if the east
slope of the Rockies!
October- Will and I took out annual hunting trip to North Dakota this
year and had to learn some new tricks. For starters, the best hunting is
in harvested agricultural fields. When we hunted marshes we had
success but the most reliable and productive shooting was in fields.
One morning we shared a field with
North Dakotans Ty and CJ and were
able to shoot these cackling geese,
specklebellies and mallards. It was our
most productive hunt and we learned
from a couple of experts!
One evening we found a field full of
mallards, got permission to hunt and
set up a mixed goose/mallard spread.
Mallards loved it but the geese flared
from the mallard decoys- you live and
you learn.
When not duck or goose hunting we
spent most of our time scouting but on
two occasions we let Brady flush a few
pheasants for us! Lots of fun, but
tough, exhausting work for the dog.
